Yesterday during the Georgetown / Bayi basketball game in Beijing, 2 days into Vice President Biden’s visit, a Chinese basketball player from the Bayi team (a military owned b-ball team) must have felt overwhelmed with the tie score of 64-64...or perhaps our Hoya player made a smart comment. Eitherway, the brawl began and quickly grew in size. Fortunately for the Hoyas, all blame was placed on the Bayi players for their aggression. They were subsequently fined $10,000. It is reported that twitter and facebook exploded with posts by Chinese commentators who thought it was tacky that a soldier would attack a college “kid”. Either way, I have a different issue with the situation...
In a quick attempt to ameliorate the international impact of the fight, the Chinese government began censoring comments on the web...about a fight at a basketball game….seems logical to me...?
If you’re concerned about animosity, have no fear…the boys all made up the next day over a meal. Now that's what I call diplomacy.
