Peek-A-Boo...Spring sees you!

Ready or not, here Spring comes! With bursts of color, amazing shoes, classic dresses and sexy light weight shirts, my favorite season of the year is about to make a grand entrance. I have been told time and time again that Washington, DC is one of the prettiest cities in the world during the spring. I am excited for the Cherry Blossom Festival that everyone in this city talks so much about, but more importantly, I can’t wait to begin choosing my outfit for the weeklong event (btw, it goes from March 27-April 11th this year).

From prints and patterns to neutral colors, the looks for spring are anything but boring. If you would like to spice up your wardrobe but are uncomfortable jumping into the trendiest of outfits, I suggest starting small. Simply find a pair of trendy khaki shorts (Check out sites like American Eagle, J.Crew, or Gap) and pair them with a colored top…if you’re unsure which colors are going to be in this coming spring, you should check out the Pantone Fashion Color Report for Spring 2010.

Suggestions for the fashion newby...
Pair a coral top with turquoise jewelry and short khaki shorts. Add turquoise or coral pumps or flats to finish the look (go with a pair of heels that have a thick ankle strap to add flare). If your top is simple, go with big jewelry, but if you choose to wear a more frilly top, I would avoid looking too top heavy by finding a dainty necklace and earrings. Don’t forget about bracelets and bangles…they are perfect for making any outfit more fun.

Another suggestion is to pair a white tunic (check out this one from banana republic) or a a white tank (here's one from J.Crew) with a chunky blue necklace and a great pair of amazing blue heels...I found these shoes from Kate Spade . Have no fear, $295 isn't in my budget either. I found a pair of BCBGirl pumps on piperlime.com for only $49.99. I also like these blue Quinones--I found them at Aldoshoes.com As for jewelry, check out all of those same sites; there's definitely a ton to choose from.

In short--if unsure, keep it simple. Choose one bright color and one neutral color and then add jewelry, great shoes, and a fun bag.

Check back for more ideas...but beware, fashion is contagious--you may end up jumping out of the DC frump slump.
